Variegated yarn – crochet dress

This project was started in December as a Variegated top, then I came across another 3 balls of Ella yarn and made this longer version. Surely 6 balls of Ella yarn (954 m or 1043 yards) would not be enough for this dress, so many different grey yarns were mixed together:

I have undone all rows of my top up to armholes and crocheted this dress with fewer increases towards the bottom. I haven’t described the process from the armholes to bottom here (was busy mixing light and dark grey colours :)), so there will be no row-by-row dress pattern. I could write some suggestions for turning the Pliability – variegated top into such a dress, but it will be more like a recipe from armholes to bottom.

Breezy-Light: Crochet Skirt / Top PATTERN

Charming crochet skirt with its asymmetric hemline is a contemporary approach to a classic design. Perfect for warmer days on the beach, versatile and lightweight piece that can be worn as a poncho or a strapless top. Beautiful see-through crochet motifs in a cool blue hue emphasize the breezy impression. Sample shown weights just 170 gr/6 oz.

Crochet top with variegated yarn and yarn left overs – PATTERN

The beauty of variegated yarn is best revealed with quite simple crochet or knit stitches. I have knitted a couple of rows with stockinette stitch, but the result was boring : ). Endless rows of single or double crochet stitches would not be a great option either because they are known for their stiffness. My skin is rather sensitive and I cannot wear stiff clothes on my shoulders, that’s why I prefer not using more than 2 repeated rows of them in crochet tops. So, a combination of single crochet, half double crochet stitches and chains was chosen for making this contemporary looking drapey top. Besides I could include my yarn left overs of the same grey hue.

Crochet poncho PATTERN

This little poncho was inspired by Free People crochet top. I had slightly more than 3 balls of nice blue yarn but my calculations showed that 170 grams/6 oz just would not be enough. So, I replaced two rounds in the original Free People crochet motifs to keep their beauty but made motifs lighter and less yarn consuming. : ) Et voilà. Asymmetric poncho is finished and my yarn left overs used completely for this quick crochet project!
